Live Green Howard, a project of Howard County Government in Maryland, first came to us for help to improve their website’s visitor experience and make it responsive.
While performing a site audit, we uncovered multiple issues with the WordPress configuration and setup, which made the site management considerably more difficult and negatively impacted the overall speed and performance. Based on our detailed audit report and recommendations, LGH opted for a full redesign option.
As a leading resource for “all things green” and designed to assist the residents, businesses and organizations of Howard County in their efforts to reduce their impact on the planet, the site has to house a lot of information. Our challenge was to develop the structure and visual organization that makes this information relevant to each stakeholder group and easily accessible without overwhelming the visitors.
Substance151 created a flexible site architecture and intuitive navigational structure to ensure the ease of future additions and expansions, as well as the rewarding visitor experience. To establish a consistent design standard, Substance151 developed an equally flexible design system that uses colors and iconography to create visual cues and differentiation between various topics and still maintain the overall design consistency throughout the website.
The new website combines bold colors, photography and graphic elements to create excitement around LGH’s mission and its work, making its key messages appealing to diverse stakeholder groups. It provides numerous opportunities for engagement and organizes a lot of information in a clean, clear and intuitive manner. The newly implemented responsive design ensures that the site provides equally rewarding user experience across all mobile devices.
