A content management system (CMS) is a must! Invest in setting up the back-end administrative functionality with your specific site management process in mind. This will make a huge difference post-launch when you have to make updates.
Tip: Unless deemed necessary, avoid a proprietary CMS that ties you to a particular developer or agency, and always make sure you are in control of your domain registration and web hosting accounts.
